Senior Technologist – Materials Processing & Characterization
A team of dedicated experts led by Dr. Yongqian Gao is seeking a highly motivated post-baccalaureate degree scientist to work on processing and characterizing a new bio-inspired material developed to capture carbon dioxide (CO2). What Your Job Will Be Like
- Synthesize or characterize a new material; use atomic layer deposition, evaporation-assisted self-assembly of sol-gels, sputtering, atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), or scanning electron microscope (SEM) under the mentorship of world-leading experts in the field
- Work independently and as an active and efficient teammate
- Write reports and contribute to manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications We Require
- B.S., Masters or Ph.D., used actively within 5 years of employment, in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience in material fabrication and modification (e.g., ceramics, anodizing, sol-gels, atomic layer deposition)
- Experience in materials characterization (e.g., AFM, TEM, SEM)
- Proven ability to perform independent research and work as a team member
- Good communications skills, as evidenced by a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations at scientific conferences
This senior technologist position is a temporary position for up to one year, and may be renewed up to five additional years. Individuals in technologist positions may bid on regular staff scientist positions depending on availability of funds and satisfactory job performance.

Memzyme, LLC is a small start-up company established in 2017 by scientists from Sandia National Laboratories and the University of New Mexico. The company is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, near two national labs (Sandia and Los Alamos), a university (UNM), and a user center funded by the Department of Energy (Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies -- CINT). The company manufactures membranes for low-cost separations of liquid and gas mixtures important to the energy industry. The company is currently focused on commercializing a cutting-edge membrane for low-cost CO2 capture from industrial gas streams, a technology with origins at Sandia and UNM.
